LONDON — European travelers have a new reason to celebrate as Wizz Air unveils an annual travel pass costing only €499 ($550), allowing unlimited flights. This introductory offer, set to increase to €599 after Friday, grants holders the freedom to schedule one-way and return flights throughout the year.
According to the airline’s official website, this “unlimited” pass permits bookings to all international destinations offered by Wizz Air, such as Athens, Madrid, Paris, and Reykjavik. Reservations can be made up to three days prior to departure, starting from September.
An additional fee of €9.99 is required for each booking, and charges apply for any luggage beyond one personal item.
Wizz Air aims to distribute 10,000 of these passes initially. However, availability may vary based on several factors, as indicated in their frequently asked questions section.
This innovative pass follows the footsteps of similar programs in the U.S., like Frontier Airlines’ unlimited Go Wild! pass. While flat-rate multi-flight packages are common in Europe, this type of unlimited flying option is relatively novel.
This development occurs as Wizz Air contends with declining profits and lowering customer satisfaction amidst a challenging post-pandemic landscape.
Earlier in the month, the Hungarian-based airline reported a significant 44% decrease in first-quarter operating profits. Additionally, a customer satisfaction score of 44% placed Wizz Air at the lower end of a consumer survey conducted by Which? in February, assessing European short-haul carriers.
CEO Jozsef Varadi expressed concerns about supply issues and inflationary pressures affecting consumer behavior. Despite these challenges, Wizz Air continues to explore potential new routes from Europe to India, including ongoing operations to exotic locations like the Maldives, Cairo, and Dubai.
