In an unexpected turn of events during Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Miami Heat mascot Burnie ended up in the emergency room following a punch from UFC legend Conor McGregor. The incident occurred during a promotional stunt that escalated quickly, with McGregor delivering a powerful left-hand blow that took Burnie to the ground.
According to reports from The Athletic, the actor inside the Burnie costume was treated with painkillers and has since been released to recover at home. The skit, intended to be humorous with Burnie dressed in boxing gear to “challenge” McGregor, captured widespread attention on social media after the mascot was swiftly overpowered by the fighter.
The altercation began when Burnie playfully approached McGregor, who reacted with a forceful punch that knocked the mascot off his feet, followed by another hit.
Compounding the night’s difficulties, the Miami Heat lost the game to the Denver Nuggets with a score of 108-95, putting Denver ahead with a 3-1 series lead. The Nuggets are now poised to clinch the series in the upcoming Game 5 at their home court.
Burnie, a staple of Miami Heat culture since the team’s inception in 1991, is currently in his 32nd season as the beloved mascot.
