The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported a concerning increase in fatalities due to a listeria outbreak originating from Boar’s Head deli meats. Since the outbreak’s detection in May, there have been eight confirmed deaths, with five additional fatalities occurring in the past three weeks.
The outbreak has led to 57 hospitalizations as the contaminated products have been traced back to various types of deli meats, including ham, beef, and poultry, processed at Boar’s Head’s Virginia facility. In response, the company has initiated a recall of approximately 70 different products, primarily those sliced at deli counters.
Health authorities are urging consumers to avoid consuming any of the recalled products and to check for any items that may still be in their homes. The CDC continues to monitor the situation closely and is coordinating with public health officials to manage the outbreak and prevent further illnesses.
This recent health scare highlights the critical importance of food safety and the rapid response required from both companies and health officials to protect consumers. As the investigation continues, updates will be provided on new developments and additional safety measures.
