Federal health authorities have confirmed new instances of bird flu in California, reporting that two dairy farm employees have tested positive for the H5N1 virus. These recent cases were identified in workers at separate farms, both of whom had been exposed to infected cattle.
This latest development increases the total number of confirmed cases among farm workers to 16 this year, with additional cases still under review. Dr. Nirav Shah, the principal deputy director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, noted that these cases are part of a larger trend observed in California, where the infection among cattle herds has significantly escalated from 16 to 56 within the last two weeks.
These findings were shared during a recent news briefing by state health officials, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to monitor and control the spread of the virus. The situation continues to evolve as health experts and veterinarians work collaboratively to address the outbreak and mitigate further transmission of the disease.
