Next week, Argentine President Javier Milei is set to meet with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, Florida. This information was confirmed by a spokesperson from the Argentine government in a statement to Reuters.
Milei, who is 54 years old and aligns with ultra-liberal ideologies, took office in December 2023. His political stance is closely aligned with that of the United States, and he has openly supported Trump throughout his campaign. Following Trump’s recent win over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, Milei publicly congratulated him through a video message in English, saying, “Congratulations on your formidable electoral victory. Now, make America great again. You know you can count on Argentina. Wishing you success and blessings.”
During his upcoming trip, Milei will also have a meeting with Elon Musk, the executive chairman of Tesla and SpaceX. Their previous discussion in late September in New York was significant, focusing on Argentina’s ongoing deregulation efforts and the nation’s journey towards economic recovery.
Trump characterized Milei’s administration as one grappling with economic challenges, including fiscal policy and government restructuring. At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) held in Washington last February, Trump praised Milei, referring to him as a “great gentleman” and aligning him with the “Make Argentina Great Again” movement. Trump expressed gratitude for Milei’s presence, stating, “Thank you, Milei. It’s a great honor to have you here.”
The CPAC event, which will occur at Mar-a-Lago from November 14 to 16, is expected to feature various leaders, including El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, Brazilian Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, and Spanish politician Santiago Abascal, the leader of the VOX party. Milei’s attendance at this gathering is highly anticipated.
